Professor Ashok Venkitaraman

Ashok is the Director of the Cancer Science Institute of Singapore, a Distinguished Professor of Medicine at the National University of Singapore, and Program Director at A*STAR, Singapore. Between 1998 and 2020, Ashok was the Ursula Zoellner Professor of Cancer Research in the University of Cambridge and Director of the Medical Research Council's Cancer Unit, where he led an initiative focused on new approaches for drug development against cancer.

A qualified physician, Ashok is distinguished for his scientific work on the genetics and biology of cancer, focusing on inherited cancer syndromes associated with genome instability. He is both an elected Fellow of the Academy of Medical Sciences in London as well as the EMBO European academy. He works extensively with industry, and has served on the scientific advisory boards of companies like Cambridge Antibody Technology/MedImmune and Astex Therapeutics. Ashok is a co-founder and non-executive director of Sentinel Oncology, and chairs the scientific advisory board.
